Classical treatment is the application of insulin. In the past, insulin gained from the pancreas of pigs or other animals was used. Today, most drug use „human insulin“, meaning the biotechnological production of insulin based on the human genome sequence, but produced by a bacteria under industrial conditions. Often, the patients take also medicaments controlling appetite as overweight is one of the sources of diabetes. Some authors recommend also natural treatments based on herbs like teas, oils or other plant extracts. Many patients suffer from effects caused by diabetes like blindness, loss of extremities, which obviously require additional medical attention. Diabetes is causing in consequence other medical problems which require medical attention, like renal suffering, blindness, arteriosclerosis, amputations, stroke, liver struggle or impotency. |
